Based in London, Big Hat bridges the ever-increasingly popular gap between acoustic folk and indie rock, whilst creating something altogether individual.
Known for combining poetic lyrics with effortless harmonies, Big Hat (George Taylor, Rollo Doherty, Jack Raeder, James Wolfe and Toby Richards) were once described as possessing the ability to “lull their audience into a peaceful sleep or fill them up with hope and serenity.”
Those who are fans of Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear and Stornoway will enjoy their music – most notably, the tracks Flyfishing and Land of Sky and Ocean, which contrast rich melodies with more melancholic lyrics. Combine this with their live cover version of Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love, and you are left with something completely new and unexpected.
As one of just ten bands given the opportunity this summer to play in the Replay Tent at Bestival, Big Hat were finally given the spotlight they deserved. Since then, they have continued to perform in various London venues – most recently at Proud Camden – and have received a great reception.
Upcoming gigs include: Camden Rock (18th November) and Troubadour Bar, Earl’s Court (2nd December). With its cosy, retro-inspired interior, the eclectic Troubadour will definitely provide the perfect venue for you to lulled by Big Hat’s music.
