How to celebrate Back to the Future Day in St Andrews

October 21, 2015 is almost upon us, and that is, of course, the very day Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett L.Brownd (Doc) arrived from the 80s into what is nearly now the present. We are talking, of course, about Back to the Future II, the second chapter of the Back to the Future franchise, an American comic science fiction-adventure movie series that won 1 Oscar, another 18 wins & 24 nominations – and probably one of the best movie trilogies of all time, especially for those of us feeling a bit nostalgic.

"Doc pointed at the time display as he eased the nose of the DeLorean downward. Marty read the digital display: OCTOBER 21, 2015. 4:29 P.M."

In the trilogy, Marty McFly, a typical American teenager of the Eighties, travels to different times in a plutonium-powered DeLorean “time machine” invented by slightly mad scientist, Doc. In the first movie, Marty accidentally travels back in time to 1955 and has to make sure his high-school-age parents meet and fall in love so he can get back to the future. In the second movie, Marty is sent through time to the future, to a date that is getting closer.

Our suggestion for the day is to, of course, have a Back To The Future Trilogy marathon and later, to drown your sadness about the fact that hover boards and self-tying shoes have not been invented yet despite the movie’s prediction, we suggest heading to The Adamson Bar, where, tipping a nod to ‘The Doc’, you can enjoy a series of brand new inspired cocktails.

Julie Lewis, Managing Director at The Adamson, says: “Our building was once home to Doctor John Adamson, and we think he would have been impressed by the Doc’s ability to time travel!” Julie adds: “We have three new cocktails: from 1955, the Flux Capacitor, guaranteed to take you to where you want to go! From 1985, The Marty, in honour of the film’s leading star – and from today, 88mph.”

Why 88mph? “That was the speed Marty & Doc needed to hit in their Delorean in order to reach 2015. Now we are here, we think that’s a great way to mark us being back to the future!”

Make sure to keep an eye on the countdown here.

Please remember to drink responsibly.
