Don’t Walk season has arrived and the charity’s 13th year promises to combine the elements we love with some new, exciting ventures.
First Up – the Launch Party taking place on Friday November 22nd.
Roxy Navai, Don’t Walk’s Head of Launch and Afterparty, took some time to fill us in on the event details and give us a few ideas of what we can expect from Don’t Walk this year.
In an effort to channel a ‘Vogue Night Out’ atmosphere, the committee is switching the launch party location from its traditional venue, The Vic, to the R-Bar and Rocca in the Rusacks Hotel. The bar will be offering special deals on bottles of Prosecco, champagne, and Vodka – can’t argue with that! Roxy gave me a few ideas of the setup we can expect, including DJs in the bay window, but since a launch in Rocca is a new (and welcome) venue it’s definitely something we will have to see for ourselves on Friday night.
Luckily for us, Don’t Walk’s Heads of Music, Calum Bryant and Theo Börgvin-Weiss, are also the DJs behind the familiar and loved sounds of Moodroom Collective and will be one of the music acts for the launch. They will be joined by RAKSHA, who residents the DeadlyRhythm night at Sub Club, and is the first external act Don’t Walk has brought in quite some time.
You may have also noticed the Don’t Walk Retail site that launched a few weeks ago. Well, if you wanted to see a few of the designs in person, including hats and t-shirts, the committee will be assembling a pop-up shop for the event!
Ticket prices for the event are £20 for VIP and £15 for standard. The standard ticket gives you one free drink and access to the Retail Shop, Photobooth as well as a number of bars, which include a shot bar, champagne bar, and a mixed drink bar. However, I think this is a case where the few extra pounds for a VIP ticket sounds worth it. In addition to the Photobooth and retail shop, each VIP receives 2 free drinks (the DW Mojito and a mixed drink), cupcakes (red velvet, chocolate and vanilla provided by the St. Andrews Baking Society), an exclusive cocktail reception, VIP access to the R-Bar (which includes pop up bars that should keep queuing to a minimum) and a goodie bag with some special treats that Roxy was particularly secretive about.
Ticket sales will be held on Monday and Tuesday from 1-5pm outside 11 Greyfriars Gardens.
With only five days until the launch party, now would be a good time to dust off your chicest pair of stilettos and prepare yourself for a great night of music and fashion!
