One Horror-Packed Halloween

Although St Andrews is referred to as The Bubble, there are more events going on in the small town that one may realize. With Halloween right around the corner, local shops and University societies are eager to get students in a spooky and festive mood. From themed food to night life, there is plenty to keep any Halloween lover occupied. Make sure to clear your calendar because Halloween 2015 is horror-packed:

Ma Bells // Lumsden’s Halloween Night // Tuesday, 27 October

10 pm // Entry: £3

Come for the dancing, stay for the candy, baked goods, and drinks that will be provided inside. If a great night out is not enough to convince you, all of the Lumsden Club’s proceeds go towards two good causes: Fife Women’s Aid and Dolam Children’s Home, Namibia!

Byre Theatre // The Rocky Horror Picture Show Screening // Thursday, 29 October

8:30 pm // £7 per ticket

Did you miss Sunday’s screening of the beloved movie musical? Don’t fret, because the Byre is hosting Just-So society’s second opportunity to sing along to the 70’s cult-classic. The bar will be serving special cocktails and costumes are encouraged. After the showing, LGBT+ Society’s is throwing an afterparty in Club 601 at 11 pm FREE for ticket holders!

Holy Trinity Church Hall // The Celtic Society’s Halloween Ceilidh // Friday 30 October

8 pm // Entry: £5 for non-members/£3 for members

Dance the night away to Ceilidh classics like Strip the Willow and Canadian Barn Dance in support of The Celtic Society for a Scottish Halloween fusion! Live music will be played and refreshments served!

Student Union // Halloween Night // Saturday, 31 October

9 pm // Entry: FREE

The Union is transforming the entire student building into a house of horror to give everyone a chance to make the most of the holiday! A ‘Johnny Depp-themed Rock night’ in Sandy’s bar, a club night in 601, games and challenges, and a £100 prize for best costume will be available throughout the night!

The Adamson // Witches and Wizards Halloween Party // Saturday, 31 October

9 pm

Need a place to pre before heading to one of the many costume parties? Luckily for you, The Adamson is stocking its bar for themed cocktails like the Flaming Zombie and a Corpse Reviver. With its convenient South Street location, you can grab a drink and rush to an event in no time!

Vic St Andrews // Asquire Presents: Here for the Boos // Saturday, 31 October

9:30 pm // Entry: £4 pre sales/£5 at the door

Promising a Halloween like ‘you’ve never experienced,’ Asquire is packing a night full of themed activities to keep you entertained until the early hours of the morning. Having three DJs, a magician, cocktails, late night food, and prizes (best costume, best group costume, and scariest costume), it is definitely not something to miss!

The Lizard Lounge // Nightmare on North Street // Saturday, 31 October

Deck out in fancy dress and face paint for a chance to win a prize for the best costume! ‘Spooky drinks’ will be served throughout the night to keep you dancing to Top 40 hits and Halloween classics.

Jannetta’s Gelateria // The Catholic Society’s Quiz Night // Friday, 30 October

7 pm // Entry: FREE

The Catholic Society is hosting an ice cream filled quiz night, where some fancy dress and a sweet tooth is encouraged. Gather a team of 5 and register for a chance to win! Also, for the whole week of Halloween, Jannetta’s will have themed gelato flavours and a special sundae menu!

Drouthy Neebors Bar // FemSoc’s Halloween Pub Crawl // Saturday, 31 October

8 pm // Entry: FREE

Starting their annual pub crawl at Drouthies, FemSoc will be coasting around town to multiple pubs before hitting a late night party. Costumes are highly encouraged and ‘extra credit’ will be awarded to those in feminist-themed attire. Rosie the riveter will be a great garb to get your drink on in support of their society!

Price: £4.50

Pop into the Italian shop on Bell Street if you’re craving a holiday panini special! Served on ciabatta, the ‘Bloody Mary’ stacks tomato, rosemary ham, Tobasco sauce, salad, and a dash of Lea and Perrins. Only available for a short time, go in quick to have a taste reminiscent of the boozy drink.

Haven’t gotten a costume yet for the big night? Bonkers and Accessorize packed their stores with last-minute items, such as headbands, make up, facial stickers, and more, to help create the scariest and picture-worthy ensemble at any party!
