If you’re looking for a groovy way to spend your Saturday night, look no further. Tonight the Byre theatre is hosting an event hosted in association with Jazz Scotland as a part of the Fife Jazz Festival. The Blender is a late night theatre take over, offering a mixture of live soul, funk, fusion and jazz. Whether you’re in need of a bit of dancing, a chilled weekly de-stress or simply want to come down to experience some music talent, the night promises to have you jiving till the wee hours.
This is the first time an event like this has been hosted – and how lucky we are to have it in our own Byre theatre. For many students, this may be a perfect opportunity to pop over and see the theatre after its re-opening last year.
The line-up features:
Nick Pride & the Pimptones With Beth MACari: funky soul stew of phat grooves and beefy breaks with brassy horns, funky rhythm section and fiery singer Beth Macari,
Fat Suit: an immersive live spectacle, this 15-piece band deliver mighty mix of jazz, rock, and folk. Scotland’s Snarky Puppy. “A collective sonic surge” (Herald).
The Foo Birds: eclectic blend of soulful pop, old school funk and driving grooves; powerful singer, Kate Lister, fronts an exciting 8-piece band.
AJ Brown: a hugely talented young singer – possibly the next Michael Bublé.
Gus Stirrat Band: hot modern jazz delivered with style and panache.
St Andrews Fusion: funk, rock, jazz and fusion from homegrown jazzsters,
DJ ANdrea: direct from the Italian coolest crossover night out “So Groovey.”
One ticket to the event gives you access to 3 stage areas. 6 bands and a DJ will be playing for over 3 hours – great value with tickets being only £10. Doors open at 10.30pm, with music kicking off at 10.45 and running through until 2am. Alcohol will be served right up until closing.
It looks to be a fabulous alternative night out. Bring your dancing shoes and come along!
