UP NEXT: AMBASSADOR’S BALL

The School of International Relations ball is taking place this weekend, on Saturday the 20th April, and promises a night of fun for all, not just IR students. The inaugural ball for this faculty in St Andrews, and having started with a minuscule budget, the IR president and committee began with the idea of a global ball to celebrate the international nature of… well… International Relations, and the result of their hard efforts is the Around The World In 80 Days theme. Celebrating Jules Verne’s global novel as well as the diversity of the department’s interests & specialties, the ball pledges to be a night of fun for all.

From the launch party at The Adamson a month ago, to raffle prizes featuring a tour with the Eden Mill distillery and Mammacita’s vouchers, the School of IR has managed a ball with high-quality sponsors, and secured the Old Course Hotel as their location for this Saturday’s event. Among other school events like the Bull & Bear Ball from the schools of Economics and Management, the IR department has joined to give an experience to not only their own students but anyone who wants to attend their worldwide festivity.

Beginning the night with a traditional Scottish ceilidh dance, the rest of the evening’s acts reflect the global theme. Following JazzWorks’ swing and jazz performance, the band Whaleshark Daddy, fresh from performing at Bacchanalia 2019, will treat guests to their rock and popular music.

TIGRE, a Bristol and St Andrews-based DJ will also mix a set on stage, with his blend of house music that he has performed alongside James Hype and Fuse ODG, with a special global mix. Finally, the headliner, .j//QUOW, whose performances at various launches, FS, and Sitara* make him the perfect act for the weekend’s ball. Jonathan Quow was born in New York City and raised alone by his mother, a Trinidadian immigrant, in Midwood, Brooklyn, NY. It was at home, listening to his mother’s vinyls and cassettes that the seamless inflections of R&B/Pop and Hip-Hop which define his sound were fostered. j//QUOW brings the sounds of his urban jungle to the small town of St. Andrews.

Don’t miss the School of International Relations’ “Around The World In 80 Days” ball, this Saturday, at the Old Course Hotel.

Limited tickets still remain via their FIXR link, for £28.
