This Sunday, the 2ndof December, the University of St Andrews’ A Cappella Society returns to Younger Hall for another evening of Christmas delight. The festive concert, which has been a sell-out in previous years, will be taking place at the earlier time of 3.30 pm, contrary to the previously advertised time of 7.30 pm. The society is excited for their first ever afternoon concert, as the earlier time will make the concert more accessible to both locals and students from the Fife area, helping to spread Christmas cheer!
‘We are really excited to reveal our surprise guest performers for this year’, enthuses Jemima Davies, President of the A Cappella Society, ‘we are welcoming back Irish a cappella group, the Trinitones, which will make for an even more entertaining concert.’
The Trinitones, who hail from Trinity College, Dublin, reached viral fame earlier this year, with 23 million views on their video on Metro UK of their medley of some George Ezra classics. After undertaking a successful US tour this summer, performing in the Yankee Stadium, the all-male group are visiting St Andrews again to share some Christmas classics with their fans.
With a collection set after the concert for Music in Hospitals & Care Scotland (MiHC), a charity that works with a wide range of people who, due to health or disability, can’t experience live music within their local communities – this concert, alongside entertaining all attendees with medleys and arrangements, will help the wider Fife and Scottish populace, bringing music to hospital halls.
All six a cappella groups from St Andrews will be performing a mixture of festive favourites and contemporary music, including a melodic choral arrangement of ‘Silent Night’ performed by the Alleycats and an entertaining rendition of the Pogue’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ from the Other Guys. The Accidentals, BELLS, The Hummingbirds, and the Vocal Bandits will also be in performance and Owl Eyes can only imagine what will be on display; to find out for yourself, and for more information on the various a cappella groups and a FIXR link to purchase tickets, please visit the St Andrews A Cappella page on Facebook. There will also be tickets available at Younger Hall from 2.30 pm, and doors will open at 3.00 pm.
