Oz Ball, Dance Soc’s 2015 event is coming up next Friday (27th.) Unsure of what to wear for your trip to Oz? Here’s some inspiration from the character’s themselves; The Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Lion.
The Wicked Witch of the West
Think of the Emerald City, and add a touch of green to your favourite LBD. Black tie doesn’t mean your dress has to be long so if you fancy something different, try this lacy playsuit to keep it short and sweet. Emerald jewellery is super classy, and if you’re feeling brave you could even go for green shoes or a green dress (maybe not both)! Keep your make up dark and smoky with this look, focusing on the eyes and wearing a nude lip.
Glinda the Good Witch
Lesser-known character Glinda is all about white and silver in contrast to her evil counterpart, the Wicked Witch from the West. Full white outfits can be really classy (although very risky with darkly coloured drinks, so think white wine rather than red if you go for this look). If all white is too daunting for you, monochrome is always a great choice and is perfect for black tie. With this look, keep your eyes simple and wear bright red lips to add a splash of colour.
Adding gold to an outfit is a great way to jazz up a simple dress and make you feel more fancy for a black tie night. Take some inspiration from the Lion (he’s kinda gold) and add some sparkle, or even go for a lovely gold dress like the one above to really stand out. If the dress is too much, gold accessories are classic and really draw an outfit together. Add some sparkle in your make up too, with gold eye shadow or face glitter.
Oz Ball looks set to be a different night from the usual ones in St Andrews, so take some inspiration from the story itself and go all out with your look for the evening. Most importantly, be creative and comfortable, and don’t be afraid to use copious amounts of glitter.
