Inject Colour Into Spring Fashion

Yes, it is Spring. Yes, I am in denial that we had snow a couple of weeks ago and I was forced to get my ski jacket out. Yes, this means a whole new wardrobe! I personally take it upon myself to inject some colour into my closet whenever Spring appears, because despite the temperature drop, the clocks have gone forward, and therefore it is officially summer time.

Whilst the majority of St. Andreans seem to be insisting on sticking to their winter wardrobe of blacks and greys, I have seen one trend stubbornly making its way through the crowd: coloured skinny jeans. The easiest way to introduce some colour into your clothes is through jeans… In St. Andrews we can be faced with literally any extremes of weather, and while skinny jeans are going nowhere, what better way to keep warm and look summery? Try H&M and Zara for affordable, and most importantly comfy versions, or if your budget stretches a bit further, try 7 For All Mankind and Victoria Beckham Denim, which both have a variety of pastel hues. Forthe more adventurous, check out Rag & Bone and See By Chloe's patterned skinnies.

Another trend that has been making its way from the catwalks to Market Street is the satchel. Satchels have made a comeback this season, this time round in every colour under the rainbow. If you are feeling brave, look to The Cambridge Satchel Company for a variety of fluorescents, or push your budget and hit Marc by Marc Jacobs, for a colourful take on the classic. If your wallet doesn’t extend to this, then why not try our sartorial go-to, H&M. I found a great orange satchel that is not only the perfect size for my laptop, but also the perfect price for my bank account!

Whilst I would very much like to wander aroundin just a sundress and sandals, we all know Scotland doesn’t allow that, so I would recommend going to Zara (my own personal fashion mecca) to check out the cute Chanel-esque jackets they have there. I personally live in my white floral jacket; it’s warm enough to stand the weather, and brings a bit of colour into my outfit. A light pastel coloured blazer is the perfect way to brighten up an otherwise plain outfit – as well as a great investment piece.

So put away drab winter shades, and make way for summer!
