DONT WALK Launch Party Review

On Friday, only the most glamorous guys and gals descended upon the Rusacks Hotel for arguably the most highly anticipated fashion event of the semester, the DONT WALK 2014 Launch Party. Expectations were high as the DW committee smartly abandoned their usual choice (and lets face it, every one else’s), the Vic, in favor of the subtle sophistication of R-Bar and Rocca Restaurant, both located on the picturesque 18th hole of the Old Course.

VIP guests were treated to exclusive access to R-Bar and greeted with both a Vodka Cranberry and Mojito upon entry to set the mood. Champagne and cupcakes (courtesy of the St Andrews Baking Society) were artfully placed throughout the room as stunning black and white portraits of the DW models lined the walls (as if we needed reminding of their flawlessness). VIP guests also received gift bags stuffed to the brim with goodies including Adamson drinks vouchers and custom DONT WALK cookies.

Despite all the free goodies, this reviewer (for the first time ever, I should add) spent most of the night in Rocca, where DW Heads of Music, Calum Bryant and Theo Börgvin-Weiss held their own against Glasgow DJ giant, RAKSHA. Silhouetted against the huge bay windows overlooking the Old Course, both musical acts set the tone for the night by mixing deep house with classic club favorites. It was in the standard section where the DW committee really out did themselves. Here guests also received a free cocktail as well as access to bars which specialized in shots, champagne, and mixed drinks respectively. This ingeniously cut down lines and allowed for more time to spend on the dance floor.

In Rocca guests also had access to the DONT WALK Retail pop-up shop, which featured flat caps by the effortlessly urban IIA NYC as well as all the candy and cake you could handle. For more information on DW retail, check out their newly launched website here!

In true DW style, the fashion theme of the night was black, with slinky cocktail dresses and crop tops amongst the most popular looks. The models themselves stood out from the crowd in a menagerie of on trend jumpsuits and monochrome styles as they led the charge from R-Bar to the dance floor.

In the end, the DONT WALK 2014 Launch party was an enormous success (I cannot commend them enough for their amazing choice of venue) with all the guests happily stumbling off to their beds, dreaming of what delights await those lucky enough to attend the show in March.
