What To Wear: Glitter Ball

Glitter Ball, hosted by LGBT, is coming up on Saturday 7th March. Held in the Old Course Hotel, this event is black tie incorporating as much glitter as you can possibly use in one outfit. Described as “the most fabulous ball of the year”, Glitter Ball is definitely a time to try your most daring outfit combinations and to stand out from the crowd. Dust off your best ball gowns and your most glamorous heels, and use these 3 outfits as inspiration for your look on Saturday night.

Black and Gold is a classic combination (there’s even a song about it). Get on your favourite LBD and jazz it up with the most sparkly gold accessories you can find. This look allows you to feel confident and comfortable in your favourite dress, but also lets you try something different by accessorising. Don’t be shy, LGBT society recommend using as much glitter as possible. This is a fairly safe look so don’t hold back with your make up. Think smokey, glittery, gold eyes, and even red lips if you’re feeling brave.

Although for black tie, people usually think ball gowns and floor length dresses, I think if done right, you can definitely go for a top and skirt combo. Going for a midi skirt, rather than full length, is more interesting, and lets you show off your shoes. This monochrome number is more subtle so use your accessories to add some sparkle, like wearing these glittery socks under your heels. If you’re wearing a plain black top, it can be really nice to wear some long necklaces or stand-out pieces that contrast with the black. For your make-up, try smokey eye and silver glittery eye shadow or face glitter.

If you’re feeling really brave, and wanna be as glittery as possible, this winter white glitter dress is the one for you. The shape of the dress is really on trend right now, very 90s, and the colour-changing glitter is really going to make you stand out! Team with equally outlandish accessories like these shiny silver shoes, or tone it down with black or white accessories if you’ve had enough of the glitter. Keep your make up simple, with a nude lip and a dark eye.
With Glitter Ball, you really can’t be wearing too much glitter, so don’t hold back and be creative with your outfit. Try something you wouldn’t want to try at other black tie events in St Andrews, because Glitter Ball is all about feeling fabulous.
